Mafia II Collector’s Edition announced

It’s been 8 years since the cult hit Mafia came out for Windows. Flawed ports to the Xbox and PlayStation 2 prevented the game from garnering status as a classic release in the annals of videogames. Yet the fan groundswell behind the original title has garnered a sequel from Czech studio Illusion Softworks. After three years of teasers and trailers, the game is finally set to release August 24 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows. And now it will be available in a limited Collector’s Edition package.

Publisher 2K announced the package last week.  The pack comes in steelbook packaging and includes a 100 page artbook, orchestral score and a map to Empire Bay, the game’s open world city.  The Collector’s Edition also gives access to a downloadable Made Man pack featuring two unique cars and suits.

In addition to the Collector’s Edition, 2K also announced a handful of pre-order bonuses unique to specific retailers.  Gamestop gets the Vegas Pack with Las Vegas themed cars and suits or the War Hero pack with two military vehicles and outfits, Best Buy features the greaser pack with leather outfits and hotrods, Amazon gets the Renegade pack with similar items to the greaser pack but including a sports coup and lettermen’s jacket.  Wal-Mart preorders won’t get exclusive DLC, but do net a $10 gift card, which is probably a lot more useful.
